ETIS Community Gathering 2018

The telecom industry is being disrupted continuously. All of our Telco members have gone through major digital transformation programs over the last decade-- moving to an all IP infrastructure, setting up IT Transformation programs and transforming the business lines. Artificial Intelligence, Blockchain, Big Data, 5G, IoT and virtualization of network and cloud infrastructure will even speed up the pace of disruption and transformation.

The 2018 ETIS Community Gathering, which takes place in Lisbon, Portugal from the 18th to 19th of October, will focus on how operators can go beyond connectivity and pursue digital services in which they have a competitive advantage.

Therefore at this year’s ETIS gathering, we will have keynote speakers who will give inspiring and also thought provoking views on the future of telecoms.

As the premier gathering of European telecom professionals, this two-day event presents an invaluable networking and knowledge sharing opportunity for all of ETIS' Members, Associates and Partners.

Meetings are designed to be interactive with tangible, concrete takeaways and solutions derived from workshops and roundtable discussions. Partnerships and other collaborations are discussed and participants gain deeper insight into trends, discuss challenges and share best practices with their peers across Europe.

The Gathering will be kicked-off by a Common Session featuring ETIS Chairman Paul Slot and renowned keynote speakers including Malcolm Frank, who will give his view on how artificial intelligence will change industries at large and the telecom sector in particular, and Risto Siilasmaa, who will give his view on future disruptions of the telecom industry as well as discuss the leadership lessons he learned from his experience transforming Nokia from a technology company to an AI company--lessons for any company confronting massive change.

Finally, the local innovation scene will be featured both during a start-up session as well as during working group sessions of relevance. We’ve worked hard to identify companies working on solutions that can add real value to the sessions and the telecom sector in general.

Portugal’s tech scene has been rising for years with their startup scene growing twice as fast as the European average according to Startup Europe Partnership. Why? Home-grown innovation as well as foreign companies and entrepreneurs see Portugal's cheaper cost of living, local talent, favorable tax rates and easier residency programs--not to mention the local culture, food and climate--as big draws. In fact, venture capitalist investment increased six-fold from 2015 to 2016 alone, totaling €18.5 million. Lisbon specifically is now fourth on a global list of the best places to start a business according to PeoplePerHour's Startup City Index, with other cities such as Porto also hosting a thriving scene.
