The ETIS CERT-SOC Telco Network held its first meeting of the year in Vienna kindly hosted by A1 Telekom Austria on 26-27 March 2015. The meeting was attended by 16 participants from 10 companies including A1, Belgacom, Deutsche Telekom, KPN, Turkcell, Swisscom, TDC, Telefonica, NOS and Vodafone. The main goal of the meeting was to bring together CERT and SOC specialists from ETIS member organisations in order improve the overall security of the telecommunications infrastructure through the exchange of information, intelligence and experiences, and sharing of knowledge in the areas of cyber intelligence and security.
Summarising the successful meeting, Krzysztof Müller, Chief Information Security Officer for A1 Telekom Austria commented: “I really enjoyed being the host for the ETIS CERT-SOC Telco Network gathering in Vienna. Two days of talks with experts whom are fighting every day against different attacks gave us a very broad understanding of the issues and at the same time deep insights on how the other Telcos are solving the today’s Security challenges."
During the first day, the meeting focused on latest organizational activities including an in-depth session on DDOS trends and measuring the effect DDOS has on networks. On the second day, the group discussed and shared knowledge on more operational and technical topics including Arbor co-operation, OSINT monitoring services and building up cyber intelligence capabilities. The group is also pleased to announce that they have elected Lukas Szabo from Proximus as their new Chairman. ETIS would also like to thank Alan Millar from BT for his time as Chairman who did a tremendous job in building up this dynamic community in a very short time span.
The next CERT-SOC meeting will be hosted by Proximus in Brussels on 8-9 October 2015. This meeting will also be preceded by an ETIS Threat Intelligence Sharing Project Workshop on 7 October.
