Last week, on the 6th and 7th of February, the ETIS Procurement & Vendor Management working group held its first meeting of the year in Rome, Italy kindly hosted by Telecom Italia. The meeting was well attended with 14 people representing 9 telcos including Belgacom, CYTA, KPN, Lattelecom, Swisscom, Telecom Italia, TeliaSonera, Turk Telekom and Turkcell. In addition, Nicola Caccavallo from Gartner was invited as the key note speaker.
The main topics of this meeting were organized around ‘Selection, Evaluation and Management of Vendors’ and ‘New ways of Sourcing’, like Near-Shoring and Sourcing directly from ODMs – Original Design Manufacturers, instead of buying from traditional hardware suppliers. On the second day of the meeting, the group also held an interactive workshop on the topic of ‘Steering and Governance of Procurement Organisations’ led by the Chairman of the ETIS PVM working group, Andreas Wyder from Swisscom. The workshop was well received by the participants and the format will be repeated in further meetings. The group also discussed and shared best practices in Procurement and updated each other on the current challenges they experience within their organizations. The participants were pleased with the opportunity to share knowledge and experiences with many Procurement issues with peers from different Telcos in such an open and trusted environment.
ETIS would like to thank Telecom Italia with Gian Enrico Paglio and Maurizio Corsi for organizing the meeting and their great hospitality. The next meeting of the Procurement & Vendor Management working group will take place on 4-5 June in Vienna and will be hosted by A1 Telekom Austria.
