This year, ETIS members met in Athens on October 18/19 to share and exchange knowledge at the ETIS Community Gathering 2012. The theme of the Gathering was ‘The role of Telcos in the Internet of Things’. The Gathering was also held in conjunction with the 44th Management Board meeting kindly hosted by OTE. This successful event brought together close to 160 participants from 52 companies to share knowledge on key ICT issues facing the Telecom industry.
The Gathering opened with a common session centered on the opportunities, challenges and implications of the forecasted expansion of M2M technology for Telco operators. The keynote presentation was made by Jürgen Hase, VP M2M Competence Center of Deutsche Telekom, and showed how they are bridging ICT and the core Telco business to develop their ‘Internet of Things’ strategy. The morning session also showcased presentations on our members’ M2M platforms, visions for a networked society and the resulting IT implications. Rounding off the morning was a panel session composed of ETIS Working Group Chairmen who shared how M2M is affecting their areas of work from a Security, Billing and a Customer Self-Service perspective.
The remainder of the Gathering was dedicated to parallel sessions for seven ETIS Working Groups: Information Security, Enterprise Architecture, Billing & Revenue Management, Procurement & Vendor Management, Business Intelligence & Data Warehouse and Customer Self Service. The Gathering also featured a CIO meeting that focused on ‘The ‘Internet of Things’ and Implications for CIOs’ as well as ‘Strategic IT Governance in Telcos’ and ‘Innovation & New Revenue Possibilities for Telcos’.
The two-day event was an ideal opportunity for all of the members, associates, partners as well as the working groups to get to know one another, learn about each other’s activities, plans and expectations and above all, share knowledge. ETIS would also like to thank the 2012 Community Gathering’s sponsors that made the event a great success: Ericsson (Gold sponsor), Tribold (Silver sponsor), SAP (Silver sponsor), Amdocs (Silver sponsor), Microsoft (Silver sponsor), Kampyle (Bronze sponsor), NetClean (Bronze sponsor), cVidya (Bronze sponsor), Qlikview (Bronze sponsor) and Civitta (Bronze sponsor).
ETIS will be hosting the next Community Gathering in Riga on 17/18 October 2013. This meeting is open to ETIS members, Associate members, Partners and Working Group participants. If you are interested in membership or sponsoring this event, please contact Fred Werner at email@example.com .
