A warm welcome to Branimir Spajic of Hrvatski Telekom, the newest ETIS Management Board Member!

Although Hrvatski Telekom has been a member of ETIS for quite some time, you joined our Management Board (Welcome!) this past spring. Can you tell us a little about yourself?

I have been working in HT for 9 years. I started my career in operations and touchpoints, first in the area of development as a project manager and in a PMO role, then moved to the CX Department, where my current role and responsibilities are as Customer Experience Management Director. I have an academic background is in Physics and Computer Science and am currently pursuing an MBA at Algebra University College’s Indiana Kelley School of Business (USA).

As you know ETIS is member-driven, so it is the participants who determine the scope and topics discussed within each working group, while the Board shapes the future strategy and priorities. Why did you decide to take on this leadership role in our community?

Personally, I enjoy leading. Here at ETIS, I can choose to lead and participate in ways that energize and help me and my colleagues grow. I can also choose to work on issues that I care about and contribute with my expertise, passion and focus to make a difference. I do believe that ETIS enables me to make a profound contribution to not only my company but the industry-at-large. By using this opportunity to share knowledge with other leaders, we are finding the best way to achieve our common goals and vision—which ultimately is not only bringing connectivity, but enabling success in our communities through their digital transformation.


Why do you believe participating in ETIS working groups is so important for Hrvatski Telekom?

Learning from others and, in return, sharing what we have learned can push the boundaries of collaboration and innovation in all areas of private and business life--and this is how we work at HT. We strive to provide customers with the products and services that best suit them. Our vision is a World of Better Opportunities for everyone in Croatia, connecting everyone – no matter how remote – with the opportunities that came with digitalization. At the same time, this is our responsibility as the largest private investor in digitalization (as well as the largest telecommunications company) in Croatia to positively affect the quality of life of our employees, customers and many businesses. This is how I see the benefits of contributing in ETIS working groups and making a difference for our employees and our customers.


Normally we have 2-3 meetings a year (per working group), which are hosted by ETIS members around Europe. However the current coronavirus crisis accelerated ETIS' digitalisation and we have transitioned to interactive webinars in order to keep members engaged and connected. Have you had a chance to participate in any and if so, which have been particularly interesting for you.

Yes, I´ve been actively participating in several working groups, most frequently since March the COVID-19 crisis management weekly call series, which is a status and measures exchange between Telcos. I’ve also been quite active in the Digital Telco Strategy Forum and Digital Sales and Customer Experience Group as last Winter/Spring there were a number of important and strategic topics covered in the webinars. All three groups are equally important to me, as the current situation requires the right path for a Telco´s digital transformation and the re-thinking of their business models.


In this time of webinar fatigue, what do you think makes ETIS different from other industry associations and networking events? Why would you encourage your colleagues to join upcoming webinars (and eventually meetings?)

What makes ETIS different is the approach and the way of communication and collaboration with each Member. This is valuable platform for all European Telcos, where they can share their knowledge and gain critical insight to achieve their strategic objectives. Members have access to best practices on common or more specific challenges as well as share their own to receive feedback and keep the exchange going. Moreover, we can get insights and trends, benchmarks and KPI´s that are comparable and valuable for further improvement in all areas.


Next month we will have a virtual gathering on "Getting ahead of the curve towards the new normal." Keynote speakers from STL Partners and Finnish operator Elisa will discuss how Telcos can play an active role in digitalising and reshaping the future as well as which verticals show the most promise. (Yes, health is one of them!) Why do you think your colleagues should register?


We are living in unprecedented times due to the current Covid-19 pandemic. As we are more experienced now after 6 months of diving headfirst into the “new normal”, we can gain key insights and reflection on how we can use this crisis and get ahead as an industry. Telcos are becoming increasingly important since they provide network connections, products & services, key digital and IT expertise and knowledge for our society to have better opportunities. Seeing what other innovative Telcos, such as Elisa, are doing can help us rethink our own position and possibilities.
