Last week the ETIS Information Security Working Group (ISWG) held its first meeting of the year at Telenor's headquarters to discuss different aspects of security in telecoms--from security strategy to 5G Security to collaboration between telcos to botnets awareness. 35 information security experts from 23 members and partners participated including: BT, Deutsche Telekom, Euskaltel, GO Malta, Hrvatski Telekom, KPN, Norlys, Orange France, Proximus, Swisscom, TDC, Telenor Norway, Telia Company, Tet SIA and Vodafone Germany, Abusix, ENISA, Ericsson, F-Secure, Huawei Technologies, Oracle as well as partners ENISA and TNO and invited guest Comcast. Many thanks to Telenor for hosting!
The meeting kicked off with an presentation by Telenor Norway's Chief Security Officer (and ETIS Management Board member) Hanne Tangen Nilsen and Mladen Prekrat of Hrvatski Telekom, who gave overviews of their security strategy. One highlight of the security awareness session was a presentation by Ulrich ten Eikelder who discussed Deutsche Telekom's "cyberkitchen concept," a fun and engaging internal awareness campaign they launched.
Andy De Petter, ISWG chair and Head of Cyber Security Intelligence & Incident Response at Proximus, also shared feedback from the 5G expert call series that was launched to exchange knowledge around the best practices and practical implementations of security controls on 5G. Moreover, Richard Kerkdijk of TNO also presented a new update of the Telco Security Landscape.
Another highlight included a presentation of the "Zero Impact Project" by Vodafone Germany Chief Information Security Officer John van Leeuwen and Deutsche Telekom's Head of Cluster Operational Security Gero Krueger. The goal of the project is to improve secure operations capabilities and is a good example of a collaboration between the three German Telcos: Telefónica Germany, Deutsche Telekom and Vodafone Germany. Other ETIS members were invited to join the initiative.
The next meeting of the working group will be hosted by GO Malta from June 11th to 12th. Interested to learn more? Contact ETIS Managing Director Wim De Meyer who is currently managing the group.
