The ETIS Community Gathering 2019 came to a close last Friday, October 18 in Vienna after a successful 2 days of joint- and individual working group meetings focused on Telcos "Innovating in a Trusted Digital Economy."
Many thanks to diamond sponsor Huawei, gold sponsor Ericsson and bronze sponsor Openet as well as host A1 Telekom Austria and local partner Matchmaker Ventures, whose support ensured its success!
Over 220 participants joined this year's Gathering to discuss current trends and emerging technologies and challenges as well as share best practices and use-cases with their peers from across Europe.
The Gathering was kicked off by the Common Session, which featured welcome speeches by ETIS Chairman Paul Slot. This was followed by keynote speeches by ETIS Management Board Member and CIO of A1 Telekom Austria Alexander Stock who discussed "Organizations of tomorrow – addressing the changing challenges in skills, structures and leadership"; Andrew Collinson (Partner and Research Director at STL Partners), as well as Joop Hazenberg (Author of the book, Technologie de baas). who will describe his vision of the Coordination Age and the roles that telcos should play in it; and Joop Hazenberg, who will explore the various strategies that telecom operators can take to position themselves in the 5G era – anywhere from being the dumb bit pipe to full integration with verticals such as the automotive or energy sectors. Learn more about the speakers here.
The rest of the two days comprised of networking opportunities and individual working group meetings that focused heavily on the future of the industry (Beyond connectivity. Where are the monetisation opportunities?), digitalisation and customer experience, 5G and agile development. Among other topics, the Information Security working group discussed automation in security operations as well as 5G security; The Data Privacy Task Force, competition and privacy law as well as data processing documentation and governance; The B2B working group, SMB growth strategies – expanding from C to ICT – cloud, managed IT services; and the Digital Sales and Customer Experience working group, tooling used for analytics, research, social monitoring. The Smart Charging and Payments working group also spent a half day in a Collections Workshop on best practices, digitalisation, IT stacks and data mining.
Moreover, the gathering also offered the unique opportunity for the various working groups to hold joint-sessions in areas of mutual interest and impact. This year the Network and IT Transformation working group held joint sessions with the Procurement and Vendor Management working group on agile development (the focus of this year's TeBIT benchmark) and virtualisation. While the Digital Telco Strategy Forum joined them for a session on the 5G vendor landscape.
