We're happy to announce that at the ETIS Management Board Meeting held last week in Ghent, Belgium, the members voted unanimously to re-elect Paul Slot, Executive Vice President - KPN Architecture at Dutch operator KPN, as ETIS Chairman. Many thanks to Paul for his continued dedication and support!
We're also happy to announce two new members have been elected to the ETIS Council, a subset of the Board, which meets periodically to determine strategy and oversee operational aspects. Thus, a warm welcome to Marcus Kautsch of A1 Telekom Austria and Pedro Gonçalves of Altice Portugal. Both companies joined ETIS at the end of last year and have become extremely active in our working groups. We look forward to their continued participation and further collaboration--particularly A1 as the host of the next ETIS Management Board meeting, which will coincide with the 2019 Community Gathering in Vienna.
A1 is Austria’s leading communications provider, encompassing more than 5.3 million mobile communications customers and over 2.1 million fixed access lines. They are part of A1 Telekom Austria Group, the leading provider of digital services and communications solutions in Central and Eastern Europe. Their customers benefit from a global package of offers from one source: voice telephony, Internet access, digital cable television, data and IT solutions, wholesale services, and mobile business and payment solutions. The product brands A1, bob, Red Bull MOBILE and Yesss! represent quality and smart services. As a responsible company A1 integrates socially relevant and environmental concerns into its core business.
A subsidiary of Altice Europe, Altice Portugal is a leading telecommunications and multimedia operator based in Portugal. The company’s activities extend across all telecommunications segments: fixed line, mobile, multimedia, data and business solutions. They are currently focused on investment in innovation and infrastructure, with 97% of the country already having 4G coverage and enabling Portugal to be completely fiber ready by 2020. They are currently in the development and roll-out of next-generation 5G networks, with the first expected commercial use to start as early as 2019 or 2020. Altice was also a sponsor of the 2018 ETIS Community Gathering, which took place in Lisbon.
