The ETIS Procurement and Vendor Management Working Group (PVM) gathered from April 11 to 12 for their first meeting of the year, which was kindly hosted by Turkcell at their headquarters in Istanbul. Many thanks for a warm and gracious welcome to a beautiful city.
The aim of the PVM Working Group is to further explore common interest areas and determine best practices in regards to the governance of vendors as well as to deliver common tools to enhance the PVM processes in each company.
The use of big data and blockchain was thus high on the agenda with promising tools being developed to innovate procurement in areas such as smart contracts and process tracking in supply chain management. A lively discussion ensued as ETIS members have already begun to pursue these technologies as their departments transform from having an operational focus to a strategic vision where they create value for their companies. The organisational structure of the procurement department was also discussed as it informed much of the results of the 2018 KPI survey. With the upcoming May 25th compliance deadline, GDPR implementation into contracts was also a topic of debate as each company discussed best practices and how they have handled challenges working with all of their suppliers in this area.
The use of e-auctions in the procurement of everything from bad debt to software to office supplies was also a highlight of the meeting. The possibility of future collaborations was discussed in regards to joint tendering as well as a future interactive session using gamification of e-auctions.
The challenges and benefits of using open software were discussed as well as best practices related to a number of use-cases. Overall our Members find multiple license models quite legally complex and are cognizant of the risk of moving away from standardization through the customization process. A few approaches were discussed as possible solutions to mitigating challenges related to license monitoring and vendor management, as well.
