The ETIS CERT-SOC Telco Network held its second meeting of the year in Brussels kindly hosted by Proximus on 8-9 October 2015. The meeting was attended by 15 participants from 11 companies including A1, Proximus, KPN, Turkcell, Oger Telecom, BICS, Swisscom, TDC, Turk Telekom, Telenor and Vodafone. The main goal of the meeting was to bring together CERT and SOC specialists from ETIS member organisations in order improve the overall security of the telecommunications infrastructure through the exchange of information, intelligence and experiences, and sharing of knowledge in the areas of cyber intelligence and security.
The meeting focused on the latest organizational activities including CERT models & services, forensics team set-up experiences, latest DDOS Threats, intelligence frameworks and malware labs. The group also conducted a CERT Information Tooling survey and a SOC Functions survey. Last but not least, a unique team building session took place that served to further build the CERT-SOC collaboration spirit.
Summarising the successful meeting, Lukas Szabo, from Proximus CERT and Chairman of the ETIS CERT-SOC Telco Network commented: “It was a pleasure for us here at Proximus to host the ETIS CERT-SOC Telco Network meeting. Having been involved with the initiative from the very beginning, it is great to see how much we have grown into a community where everyone shares knowledge and experiences on almost any topic. We believe that this is a unique opportunity to help and learn from each other to make sure that as an industry we continue to prepare and stay ahead of the latest threats and challenges. We are also excited about the progress we have made this year towards operationalising and automating our collaboration at the level of IoCs (Indicators of Compromise) through the Threat Intelligence Pilot Project. As with every pilot, this is only a beginning and we hope to add more members to the project in the very near future to create a truly automated ETIS-wide sharing network."
The meeting was also preceded by a Workshop to finalise the ETIS Threat Intelligence Sharing Pilot Project featuring Proximus, KPN, A1 Telekom Austria and Swisscom. This project was managed with the help of our trusted partner TNO. The goal of this initiative is to share Cyber Threat Intelligence and trial a new platform that will greatly enhance the exchange of cyber threat intelligence among European telecoms providers. The project will be presented at the next ETIS Information Security WG meeting as it is now ready for other operators to connect to it.
The next CERT-SOC meeting will be hosted by Turkcell in Istanbul on 7-8 April 2016.For more information on the CERT-SOC Telco Network and the group’s activities, please contact Fred Werner, ETIS Communications & Programme Director at email@example.com
