On May 7 and 8, the ETIS Business Intelligence Working Group held a meeting in Brussels, hosted in order to exchange insights into the current situation and future of Business Intelligence within Telcos. The key topics of this meeting included monetising of BI, BI funding and budgets, privacy and legislation questions, approaches to Big Data, data quality and storage, processing and analytics, metrics, visualisation of data, customer experience, data-driven transformations and related challenges.

23 participants attended representing companies such as Telefonica, T-mobile Netherlands, BT, Deutsche Telekom, Proximus, Swisscom, Lattelecom, Fastweb, Adobe, Risa IT, Mobidia and Subex.

Summarising these two successful days, Mark Vanhommering, Risa IT and acting Chairman of the BI WG explained: “It proved to be a lively discussion on topics ranging from data privacy to visualisation tools and how data scientists could support the transformation into a data-centric organisation. It is the strength of ETIS to bring various Telcos together in a setting where sharing becomes natural. Large Telcos like BT, Telefonica and Deutsche Telekom run projects on a scale that is inspiring to many. Smaller companies like Proximus, Swisscom, Fastweb, Lattelecom and T-Mobile Netherlands are undergoing transformations that are at least as ambitious and far-reaching. The key to success lies in mixing these experiences and learning from each other.”
