Successful Practices in Telco Security Report

During the past years we have seen Information Security rise on the Telco agenda and consequently become one of the most active areas for ETIS with three out of  ten Working Groups dedicated to security related issues. Information is an essential asset to a Telco, and vitally important to business operations and long term viability. With its variety of topics ranging from security governance and standards, to external threats and digital warfare, the ETIS Information Security Working Group responds to any aspect of challenges Telcos face in the present landscape.

One of the most important activities of the Information Security Working Group has been the yearly Telco Security Benchmark. This activity is motivated by the fact that there are few, if any, specific security benchmarks representing the European telco landscape. Between 2009 and 2014 the benchmark has incorporated a total of 19 European telecom providers, many of which are now repeat participants. Half of this year’s participants took part in the benchmark for the third time, which not only shows that they see great value in it but also that the benchmark allows them to monitor the evolution of the security landscape and track their maturity over time.

As a complement to the security benchmark, we have produced a Successful Practices in Telco Security Executive Report that is publicly available to highlight our work and also attract potential participants. Over the years, the survey has been exceptionally rich with interesting practices that Telcos might adopt from one another. The results is 49 successful practices distributed over the various benchmark themes.
