The ETIS Information Security working group held its second meeting of the year kindly hosted by Swisscom in Zurich, Switzerland on 19-20 June. This meeting was well attended with 26 participants representing the following companies: A1 Telekom Austria, Avea, Belgacom, KPN, Manx Telecom, Oger Telecom, Swisscom, TDC, Telefonica, Telenor, Turkcell, Detecon, Ericsson, Huawei Technologies, Praesidium, Oracle, Symantec and TNO.

The goal of the meeting was to discuss how current challenges, opportunities, strategies and business drivers are influencing the Information Security environment. Some of the specific topics covered during the meeting included: latest Information Security strategies, Implications of the http 2.0 & SPDY on Telco Security, Experiences with Cyber Security Incidents and the results of the ETIS Incident Response Organisation Survey. The group also discussed Security in Outsourcing and Vendor Security Assurance, 2014 Security Controls and Reports and, last but not least, vulnerability and threat intelligence sharing between ETIS member companies.  Our host Michel Gachet from Swisscom had the following to say about hosting the event: “It was a pleasure to host the ETIS Information Security working group meeting in Zurich. ETIS provides us with a unique opportunity to meet our peers confronted with the same challenges and to share actual and coming issues. The pleasant atmosphere and the environment of trust adds great value to the group and Swisscom is glad to be part of it.”

The usual two-day meeting was preceded by the ETIS Information Security Benchmark Workshop on June 18, the goal of which was to discuss the results of the latest participants and to share some of the successful practices identified and to compare the newly established security performance levels of ETIS members. The study provides an in-depth look at the security of the enterprise environment and has been developed with the help of TNO. Now in its sixth year, the benchmark has incorporated a total of 16 European telecom providers, many of which are now repeat participants.

The next meeting of the Information Security Working Group will take place on 16-17 October in Budapest as part of the ETIS Community Gathering 2014.
