ETIS – The Global IT Association for Telecommunications, is pleased to announce that Mr. Wim De Meyer, Vice President of Architecture & Planning for Belgacom, has been elected as the new Chairman of ETIS. The vote took place during the 45th ETIS Management Board meeting kindly hosted by Swisscom in Zurich on 30 May 2013. Wim has been an active ETIS Council and Board Member since October 2007 and is well placed to understand the challenges and opportunities facing such a unique organization like ETIS. "As a long time member of the ETIS Board and Council, I have seen the impressive work that’s been done by the organization and its members.” said Wim. "All of us highly appreciate the opportunities and benefits already realised from being part of the community and I look forward to further building upon ETIS’ successes and providing strategic leadership to help guide the organisation into the future."
Wim has been working for Belgacom for over 25 years and has a broad range of executive experience bridging the Business, Network and IT facets of the Telecom Business. He started in the 1987 in the technical department of Belgacom as a switching expert and moved to innovation (multimedia services) and product management in the 1990’s. Between 2003 and 2007, he oversaw the strategy of the wire-line business unit, and from 2007 onwards, he became responsible for the Network and IT strategy of the fixed and mobile activities. As of 2012, Wim is responsible for the Architecture, Strategic Planning and Program Office of Belgacom’s Network and IT activities. His unique experience in the telecom business and many years of service as a Council Member make him well placed to lead ETIS into the future. The Board is delighted that Wim has accepted the nomination and believes he will bring a wealth of expertise into the organisation. You can catch Wim at the ETIS Community Gathering (Riga, 17-18 October) as he will be making the opening presentation on ‘Today’s Telecom Business and the Role of ETIS’ as well as Chairing the ETIS CIO Executive Workshop.
ETIS would also like to thank Tora Tenden for her leadership over the years and express our appreciation for her dedication and hard work that has helped shape the organisation and its strong culture of 'sharing knowledge'. Although Tora will no longer serve as the Chairman of ETIS, she has not left us altogether. During the same meeting, the Management Board appointed her to continue within ETIS in a new administrative position as the ETIS Secretary General.
