Last week, the ETIS Business Intelligence & Data Warehousing (BI&DW) Working Group held its first meeting of the year in Brussels, Belgium. The event was kindly hosted by Belgacom along with Qlikview who hosted the traditional group dinner. It was attended by 18 people from a variety of companies including Belgacom, Deutsche Telekom, eircom, Lattelecom, Swisscom, Telecom Italia, T-mobile Netherlands, Vodafone, Data Management and Warehousing, Oracle, Qlikview, SAS and Teradata.
Summarising the successful meeting, Peter Simoens from our host Belgacom said: "Hosting the ETIS BI&DW Working Group gathering gave Belgacom the opportunity to have internal colleagues involved in the BI domain, to participate in interesting sessions and share their experiences with the workgroup members on projects and challenges we’re all involved in.”
As during previous meetings, the main goal was to discuss how to drive business value and exchange knowledge in the Business Intelligence & Data Warehouse area whilst innovating the BI field. The group also updated each other on the latest projects, strategies, opportunities and challenges and discussed a range of topics including the current status and future plans for Big Data, the BICCs (Business Intelligence Competence Centres) and their different setups across the Telco landscape, Cloud and SaaS Strategies, and Data Visualisation and Data Marts.
The members of the ETIS BI & DW Working Group would also like to take this opportunity to thank Jan Frandegard from TeliaSonera for his excellent job as Chairman of the group during the past five years. For those of you who were not there, the group elected Peter Simoens and Wim Casteur from Belgacom to co-chair the group and elected Isabel Martin Garcia from Deutsche Telekom as a Vice Chair to support established Vice Chair, Nikos Karagiannidis from OTE.
The next meeting will take place during the ETIS Gathering in Riga on October 17/18 2013. For more information on how to join this group, please contact Fred Werner at: firstname.lastname@example.org
