One of the key mediums used to share knowledge among our Members is the well-known annual ETIS Community Gathering which was recently hosted in Copenhagen on 15-16 October 2015. This event was held in conjunction with the 50th Management Board meeting kindly hosted by TDC in the beautiful Tivoli gardens. The Gathering brought together 135 participants, 80% of which were Telcos, all willing to share best practices on key ICT issues and trends facing the Telecom industry.
The Gathering began with a presentation from Wim De Meyer, ETIS Chairman, who presented on the future Innovation trends of the Telecom industry and how ETIS can support the industry. Wim had the following to say about the Gathering, “It was a pleasure to see so many of our Members actively sharing knowledge at the ETIS Community Gathering in Copenhagen this year. As the Chair of the CIO Executive Workshop, it was refreshing to witness our Members transitioning from a cost-cutting mentality to a more positive growth and innovation outlook. A lot of time was spent discussing how to innovate and create a culture of innovation in Telcos. The general consensus seems to be that Telcos are best at continual, incremental innovation and protecting the core is critical. Disruptive innovation should be done around the edges of the organisation and supporting start-ups is a productive model for large organisations who are struggling to innovate. ETIS is one of the few trusted platforms where Telcos can openly exchange knowledge and best practices in a non-competitive environment.”
The morning session featured a Keynote presentation from Innovation Guru, Alexander Blass, who has been credited with kicking off the Crowd Funding industry. His part inspirational and part educational keynote helped to dispel the myth that Telcos are too big to innovate whilst inspiring our Members to become innovators themselves. This presentation was followed by Olivier Colinet, Business Solutions Director - Apps for work, Google, who shared his company's ‘Moon-shot Thinking’ strategy that consists of solving huge problems, providing radical solutions and providing breakthrough technologies. This was followed by a session on ‘Innovation in a fast-changing industry’ by Joakim Cerwall, Vice President, Head of PLCM Operations, Ericsson. The Common Session concluded with an animated panel discussion moderated by Tony Poulos, Editor of Disruptive Views.
The remainder of the Gathering was dedicated to parallel ETIS Working Group sessions: Enterprise Architecture, Digital Sales & Services, Information Security, Procurement & Vendor Management, Business Intelligence and Billing & Revenue Management. The Gathering also included a CIO Executive Workshop that featured an Innovation Master-class, Innovation challenge and Innovation Panel session with some delegates from Google and Facebook as well as some key Danish innovators and business leaders.
This two-day event was an excellent opportunity for all of the members, associates, partners as well as the Working Groups to get to know one another, learn about each other’s activities, plans and expectations and above all, exchange knowledge through open discussion in a trusted environment. ETIS would also like to thank the 2015 Community Gathering’s sponsors that made the event a great success: Ericsson (Gold sponsor), Huawei (Silver sponsor) and TATA Consulting Services (Silver sponsor).
ETIS will be hosting the next Community Gathering in Zagreb on 13-14 October 2016. This meeting is open to ETIS members, Associate members, Partners and Working Group participants.
