Last week the ETIS Anti-Spam Co-operation Group held a meeting in Oslo, Norway which was kindly hosted by Telenor. It was attended by 20 people from a variety of companies including Abusix, BT, Cloudmark, Deutsche Telekom, Elion, Orange, Return Path, Slovak Telekom, Swisscom, TDC, Telenor and Vade-Retro. Summarising the successful meeting, our host from Telenor and the group's Chairman, Vegar Asmul said: "It has been a pleasure to welcome the group to our Telenor headquarters for two days of discussion, networking and sharing of knowledge. Having officially widened the focus of the group to reflect the ever-changing nature of internet threats, we are now looking forward to addressing network abuse issues such as phishing and botnet activity from a new perspective, as well as learning from other experts in the field.

As during previous meetings, the main goal was to discuss how to reduce spam levels on the Telcos networks and how to deal with the latest threats. Additionally, the group exchanged information and views on malware, botnet suppression, spam trends and statistics, held an extensive DMARC workshop, and made good progress in updating the ETIS Anti Spam Best Practices document. The meeting also focused on the progress and experiences of the ETIS – Return Path Feedback Loop project and possible to ways to expand the scope of the information exchanged. Last but not least, the group made an important decision to change its name to the 'ETIS Anti-abuse Telco Network' which better captures the wide range of issues and different approaches already discussed during the meetings.

The next meeting will be most likely take place in June 2014 in Brussels. For more information on how to join this group, please contact Fred Werner at:
