One of ETIS’ main activities revolves around Benchmarking and Surveys within the working groups which is one of the best ways for our members to share knowledge, experiences and best practices among themselves. Now in its fourth year, the ETIS Information Security Benchmark 2012 conducted in co-operation with TNO, provides an in-depth look into the Telco security environment and indicates where our members perform well and where improvements could result in substantial value in terms of savings in resources, increased performance and benefits gained from introducing Information Security best practices. This benchmark is motivated by the fact that there are few, if any, Telco specific security benchmarks for top management to consider when deciding what is an optimal amount of resources to spend on Information Security.
Over its lifetime, the survey has brought together a total of 16 European telecom providers, many of which are now repeat participants. Such continuity makes the endeavour even more unique as it lends additional value to the results, which allow one to track the evolution of the security landscape across the industry. The results of the full benchmark are available to participating companies only however as a complement to the Security Benchmark, we have also produced a ‘Successful Practices Executive Report’ that is publicly available to highlight our work and also attract potential participants. The best practices are also discussed each year at a dedicated workshop hosted by TNO.
