The telecoms industry is changing and billing is one of the key components that will influence the commercial viability of next generation services based on the IMS. Traditional voice and data services may still be the cash-cow for most Telcos however these traditional services are becoming commoditized. Telcos are now looking at launching “Next generation” services made possible by the IMS however the fundamental area that needs to be addressed before the benefits of IMS are realized is billing.

Billing is becoming one of the critical factors in enabling new services and protecting existing ones. When looking at billing in the IMS, Telcos must ensure that it is both commercially profitable and technically feasible. The commercial aspect opens up whole new areas of opportunities and challenges that billing will need to address. There will be opportunities to charge for new services but billing must also become more customised based on individual preferences.

Responding to this critical issue facing the Teleco Industry ETIS is pleased to announce its 2008 Billing Workshop: 'Telecom Billing Strategies in the IMS' which will be hosted in Brussels on April 17/18 2008. The conference will cover topics like Opportunities & Challenges for Billing of IMS service, Billing operational efficiency and cost reduction, Data Retention and Electronic billing.
